R.I.P. George MacDonald Fraser
Posted 3 January, 2008 in Obituaries |
George MacDonald Fraser, author of the Flashman novels, has died at age eighty-two. Among the things the Guardian obit alerted me to was the fact that MacDonald Fraser co-wrote the screenplay for the movie Octopussy. Kingsley Amis, whose novel Jake’s Thing was reviewed here recently, was a huge fan of MacDonald Fraser, and also of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels. Wheels within wheels.

Oh no! What a shame. Though he did have a very productive career, from the looks of it. I haven’t read his latest Flashman books, but read quite a few in my teens, and just loved them. Didn’t know that about Octopussy. Cool.
